Zach's Been Busy, pt. II

  As promised the last time, more of Zach's progress. I'm showing off his, because I haven't made much. However, I am starting to feel like painting again, so maybe something good will happen.

   This first mini was painted in one hour of brush time. It's a 40K figure, supposed to be a Dark Angel Space Marine, I think.

Not bad for just 60 minutes of brush time.

Zach reminds us "Strong Tone Ink Wash is Your Friend."

   This next one is for Infiniti. She's not finished yet. Me, I don't even know exactly to which faction she belongs. He's used a metallic blue paint for her armor. Which prompts the poll question.

   Well, that's all for now. Hope you liked them. Today I am supposed to play in a Flames of War North African campaign game. (I'm scheduling this post for later.) I will try to get a few shots of my brave Sikhs and British Tommies fighting Rommel's Huns.

Zach's Been Busy, pt. I

   You've heard me talk about my buddy Zach before. He invited me around this morning to see what he's been up to lately. Lots of painting going on at Casa de Maloney.

   First up, some Rebel Minis 15mm Sci-Fi. Zach said that the owner was a really pleasant guy to work with in ordering everything.

These fellows bear a striking resemblance to mercenaries from The Fifth Element.

Unlike the movie version, these have orange skin. Why?

"Because they're mine and I can paint 'em any color I want."

Really like these guys.

Here are some skeletal robots armed with heavy weapons.

And with some regular weapons - phased plasma rifles in the 40 Watt range.

I really like how he did his bases. Very "urban ruin" feeling.

   Zach also had a little bit of 28mm stuff to show me, some unfinished. I'll post those tomorrow, maybe Sunday. Something to which you may look forward!

Closeup T-800s

   My buddy Zach finally finished up a few things, including his 15mm Terminators and some Soviet trucks (also 15mm). He thought I needed some more content for the blog (which, honestly, is probably true - I've been quiet) so he passed them along for me to post. Here they are:

Rebel Minis "The Scourge" 21 to a pack.

Sprayed Krylon black.

Dry brush Vallejo Game Color silver, red eyes.

Black ink wash.

Second drybrush of silver.

Bases are 5/8" fender washers. A bit of grit, painted black, then drybrush some black grey.

Makes a nice ash-waste/post-apoc base.

Soviet trucks, Battlefront

Krylon black undercoat, Vallejo Russian Green.

GW Agrax Earthshade wash.

Drybrush lightly in Russian Green again.

   Some nice looking models there. We are still tweaking the T-800s for Gruntz, but we are pretty close, I think.

Banzai! Banzai!

   My buddy Zach has sent me photos of his newest completed minis, some Japanese tanks for Flames of War. He's a better painter than photographer.

   His notes on the paint job:

• Vallejo recommended colours from the FOW book.
• Army Painter Strong Tone wash (that's the water-based, I think, not the dip)
• Model Master dullcote to varnish it.

   A man of few words, Zach. Well, at least when he's just texting you some stuff. He's an attorney - he talks a lot.

Zach's Scary 88

   Quick Late Night Posting of my good friend Zach's Spanish Civil War 88mm Flak. Crewed by Condor Legion volunteers. He plans to use this along with some other SCW Nationalist troops as supporters/foreign volunteers in a Very British Civil War. This thing will open up my Free Welsh Rolls Royce Armoured Car like hitting a soda can with a 12-lb sledge hammer...
