Happy Birthday, Texas!

Today is Texas Independence Day. On March 2, 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico. Seven weeks later, on April 21, 1836, a treaty was signed by President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna (the self-styled "Napoleon of the West"), recognizing Texan independence.

Happy Birthday to my fellow proud Texans!

Was out at the store later in the day told someone that it was Texas Independence day, he remarked that it was 80 yesterday and 25 today with freezing rain...he went on to say
"perhaps President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's heart really wasn't into the fight" ;-)

Instead of his heart, I think it was his leg that was out of the fight. (ha ha)

Then of course, there is what Union General Philip Sheridan had to say about my beloved home state, which just goes to show you how ignorant Yankees can be. "If I owned Texas and Hell, I'd rent out Texas and live in Hell." Or something to that effect.
