New Poll

It's been a good while since I posted a poll.

This one relates to the comments on other planets: What protective gear does one need in the aether (or ether, if you prefer)?

Me, I am leaning towards breathing mask, goggles, and warm clothing - like bomber jackets, dusters, leather flying helmets, that sort of thing. But definitely NOT a vacuum suit.

What do you chaps (and ladies, naturally!) think?

I have never thought about it much as I have never dealt much with any gaming in the Aether itself. I do sort of like the idea of treating the environment as toxic but somethign that can be handled with basic gear.

Special suits might exist, like theh eated flight suits of the high level bombers in WW2 but you could get away with bundling up. There is no air so you either hold your breath or use a rebreather or seperate supply.

Pressure is the one this that I try to avoid. You are not going to burst from rapid depreserization, in fact, the pressure might be a bitthick from all that Aether out there.

It looks as if goggles and heavy coats are proving popular!

I mean, what spells style like a leather duster and brass goggles? I ask you? So there you have it.

Vacuum is so boring. I know God must like it - He made an awful lot of it in the real universe, after all - but it's a dreadful nuisance when dealing with the luminiferous aether. So IMVSFU, I'll simply ignore it. Nature abhors a vacuum, and all that.

But I look forward to seeing what others may think.

Oh, and I see the aether less as toxic, and more as simply "not air, so you'd better bring your own."

Perhaps irritating or damaging to the eyes, what with all the light waves travelling through it, so some eye protection is necessary. Goggles. Brass, with green glass.

I think you need to add stout Tweeds and plus-fours to the list. British Aethernauts would probably rely on them. After all, if Sir Edmund Hilary can climb Everest in Tweeds then I think that they would be perfectly suitable for Aether-faring. :-)
