Plans for 2019

As we near the end of another year, I think it's a good idea for me to look forward to the year to come. I am hoping that with a plan I will perhaps stay more focused and therefore be more successful in finishing some projects so that I can play the games!

First is to finish off a project that I thought I already had done. That's the 15mm Spanish Civil War force that I built for Spain in Flames. I am doing the Nationalist Carlists, the requetes. What do I need to do to finish this up? Not too much, really.

  • Paint the Fiat Chirri biplane.
  • Paint about three platoon command bases for the machineguns, mortars, and AT guns
  • Consider a small armoured contingent, of perhaps three to five PzKW Is.
  • Get a few Mediterranean terrain pieces. Battlefront's Italian houses will work fine.

The second project to work on is Frostgrave. I bought a couple of wizards in November of 2017. I just bought a box of the plastic soldiers.

  • Paint the wizards and apprentices. (4)
  • Assemble and paint the soldiers.(20)
  • Obtain and paint objective/treasure markers.
  • Obtain terrain. I have a little bit, but more is needed. This is probably the hardest task for this project, though I already have a battlemat from Cigar Box Battle Mats.

The third new project is a SAGA 2 Viking force. I am going to just do 4 points this year.

  • Obtain and paint minis - about 25
  • Obtain terrain. I'm thinking a few 4-Ground Viking buildings will fit the bill well.

Next, I want to finish off my Soviet Team Yankee forces. It's pretty much all vehicles.

  • Finish 4x BDRMs
  • Finish BMP-1 OP
  • 10x BMP-2s
  • 3x DANA SP Guns
  • 3x Carnation or Acacias
  • 2x Shilka AAA
  • 4x SA-13 Gophers

Then there are the few odds and ends for my Flames of War DAK and 8th Army...

  • 4x Light AA half tracks
  • 4x BOFORs 40mm
  • Some sort of extra tanks for the Brits. Crusaders, maybe.

Finally, I want to get my VBCW forces into a game!

  • Terrain. Primary need for this to happen.

Well, that's all. I think that's a pretty ambitious list for me, actually. I'm hoping to do the terrain as table ready as I can get it.

01 MAR 17 SITREP

Hey everyone. I promised some photos, so here they are. I haven't done any serious painting this last week, just some finishing touches on a lot of things, but I took a few snaps of what's going on.

Company Command for Carlist Requetes in Spain in Flames

I wanted to add a Catholic priest to this base but never found a good one.
Any suggestions?

Joel, Crow, and Tom Servo
Need to finish Tom's glass bulb head and base them.
I should probably try to do a space station deck, huh?

Call Me Gungnir and SkullBot 2.0
Two re-programmed security bots now serving the star vikings.
Call Me Gungnir has the rune on his faceplate.

Khr'kk Mreowrth
Wow. I'm ready for my closeup Mister DeMille...
This is a Khurasan Felid Plasma Gunner. He's a renegade working with the star vikings, as indicated by the red helmet and armor plates.
Just needs a little grass and a clear coat.

45 Laps and more

Well, I made it around again. That's 45 consecutive laps of the third orbital. And my time is great - right on target - exactly 45 years for 45 laps. Woot woot! What a pace!

Anyway, I'm celebrating with a game of Pathfinder tonight. Already did the dinner with the family and friends back on Saturday night. Yummy German food and good beer (Spaten Optimator).

I also got a few things finished up on the painting table over the weekend. I now have a second full platoon of USMC riflemen ready to assault the beaches. I'll take pictures soon and post them here. I also finished up the light mortars for my SCW rifle platoons and two 37mm antitank guns, and a new company command stand that only lacks it's banner:

Finally, I have an additional nine 15mm sci-fi figures finished with painting, just waiting for a little basing and a clear coat. Six of them are security robots from Khurasan. I painted four of them in the same blue and yellow scheme that I used on the previous robots. But the other two are painted as renegade robots - joining the star viking crew. Ah... those motley pirates are growing in leaps and bounds!

Progress Report 19 FEB 2017

I have been progressing well at the paint table the last week or two. Taking a moment to gather (and share) my thoughts.

I have almost finished the second platoon of Marine infantry, eight more bases of four figures each. In addition, I ordered some of Battlefront's War Dog teams, a USMC Engineer Assault Squad, an LMG platoon (M1919 .30 cal), and some M3A1 37mm AT guns. After that, I just have some odds and ends to fill in for variety (at least as far as purchasing goes). I think the next group of Marines to get painted will be my 60mm mortar platoon.

While I'm at it, I also put the gun crews for some Nationalist Spanish Civil War antitank guns on the painting table, and a new company command stand. They are almost finished, with all the base down, and the ink washes done. Just a bit of highlighting and basing, then clear coat and done. That will bolster my forces nicely.

I discussed yesterday briefly purchasing some additional Ion Age figures for my Star Viking force. I'll be adding more Maligs to the crew, some random picks from what Ion Age offers. I'm painting up some older random sci-fi figures right now too. Some security robots which I think will be added to the Star Vikings and the crew of the Biscuitship from Khurasan. These are definitely not Joel, Crow, and Tom from MST3K. Nope. I'm going to group base them, use them perhaps for an objective marker or something scenario driven, like the scientists.

Finally, let me leave you with this newly finished park terrain piece. Yes, the benches are painted like Pokeballs.

Project Check, Fall 2016: 15mm

A recap of what's going on:

With the start of fall coming on, I decided I need to survey my madness. To wit, I am looking at each wargaming project I have ongoing, and what the status of said project currently is.

To define, a 'project' is a faction or force for a particular genre in a particular scale. Therefore, 15mm British WW2 and 28mm British WW2 are two different projects, as would be a 15mm DAK force, as would a British Paras vs. a British 8th Army force. Since there are so many and in so many scales, this shall be a short series of posts rather than one mega-post.

For status, I shall use 'planning' (want to buy minis), 'active' (not playable but I am currently working on it), 'inactive' (unplayable but on to-do list), 'dead' (can't play, not doing anything, don't plan on it), 'playable' (enough to play, still adding to it), and maybe rarest of all, 'finished' (can play, no plans to add to it).

I've already done the smaller scale projects, if you missed that.

  31. Terrain urban historical: inactive
  32. Spanish Civil War Requetes: inactive

Again, I think that's pretty much it for 15mm projects. I may have missed one or two. Up next is the 25/28mm list. It's even longer, I fear.

New Stuff Painted

As promised, a bunch of photos of the things I have managed to finish. I have another couple of dozen SCW minis just about done, about 18 28mm Bobbies just started, and some Hordes Warbeasts on the table now.

Reaper Bones: "Spirit of the Forest"
I'm thinking this fellow is good for straight out fantasy or
for my VSF mad biologist, Dr. Vardu.

The Bog Monster's fuzzy butt. I put Army Painter's
"Meadow Flowers" and "Wilderness Tufts" on him for
a bit of extra plant-y goodness.

Sadly, the photos don't do him justice. I think he looks great.

FOW Valentine II tank.

A pair of Valentine IIs. 7th Armoured Division, "Desert Rats"
8th Army.

Not-really-quite-finished 6-pdr portees.

Still need to finish and attach the driver and crewmen.
Not sure about fitting the side plates.

A Very Blurry SCW. Peter Pig figures, with head swaps.
This is a FO team.

Carlist requetes infantry.

All of my requetes so far. Two infantry platoons, a company commander,
an observer, and an HMG platoon.

El primer peloton es terminado.

Or, in the Queen's English, "The First Platoon is finished."

Well, that is not actually true, though it is close. The command and infantry rifle sections are completed. I have just primed the LMG and I am looking for the 50mm Valero support mortars to purchase.

At any rate, here are some of my 27 requetes, ready to protect their faith and traditional values.

Command Team

Labels on rear to help organize.
"Command of the First Platoon"
The flag is a traditional Carlist emblem from their
support of a Hapsburg monarchy.

Seccion B
There are two bases (equipos - teams) per seccion, three secciones per peloton.

Rear View. Again, labeled.
I added a Nationalist flag because I had more room.
It also lists what type of team (equipo) the stand is. In this case, a Rifle team.

Requetes Approaching

I've been working on some Carlist requetes that I obtained from Peter Pig. These are troops for the Spanish Civil War. 15mm, of course. I plan on basing them for Flames of War, because we are considering using the Spain in Flames version of that game to play. I am also interested in obtaining a copy of Bayonets and Ideology, which is Peter Pig's ruleset. Finally, we have a copy of Osprey's ruleset available (A World in Flames, I think).

Anyway, I am nearly finished painting the first platoon of infantry for my Carlist forces. So here are a few in progress photos:

Crucifer, part of the command group for each platoon.
